Well, the good guys over at Seagull Scientific have been busy bashing out the code and have just released the latest version of their BarTender label design software.
There are some nice new features, here is the list from the Seagull site:
• New, multi-level security functions, including the new BarTender Security Center.
• Integration of reprint functionality directly into Printer Maestro.
• Logging of events from Printer Maestro.
• Four new logs to view in History Explorer.
• Improved handling of Asian text characters.
• Support added to BarTender for improved international character encoding in a
number of 2D bar code symbologies.
For me, the two most interesting features are the new BarTender Security Center and the addition of a simple way to reprint label jobs.
Seagull have published a whitepaper that gives complete information on all the changes in the latest version. You can get it right from the seagullscientific.com. You can also download the 30 day demo of BarTender here.
I’ll be updating my DoD Labeling Templates to use BT 9.1 in the near future as well.
It is always nice to see good products getting even better.
Do you use BarTender? How is it working out for you?
Update: 5/13/09 I discovered that to upgrade to the new release is chargable, even for someone with the previous 9.01 release. While I don’t agree with this, there’s nothng I can do about it. Give me a call at 603-598-1553 x237 and I will help you with the upgrade process.
If your current labeling process is working fine, there is no pressing need to upgrade anyway, unless you want to get the new features. One thing to watch for though – if you get label tempaltes from a third party (the Winco ID DoD label templates for example) they are usually going to be in the current version and won’t open in previous version installations.
