Thermal Inkjet (TIJ) technology from HP has been around for some time, but new developments in the hardware, software and in the types of ink that are available have made TIJ a viable option for a much wider range of product coding applications.
ID Technology’s new ClearMark TIJ printer is designed to take advantage of the latest advances in thermal inkjet technology and offers excellent print quality, virtually zero maintenance and a simple to use (but powerful) touch-screen interface.
In addition, we have carried out extensive research into TIJ inks and have launched a range of inks that cover a multitude of applications. Traditionally, TIJ printers have worked well on porous materials, but the newer pigment based inks perform really well on non-porous substrates such as foils and films. ClearMark uses HP’s Smart Card technology which allows ink cartridges to be quickly swapped out – to change the ink color for different production jobs, for example – allowing the printer to resume work right away when the cartridge is replaced. This feature has already proven to be useful for protein processors who often need to print in black on clear or light colored films, and in white or yellow on dark color films. With a maximum resolution of 600 x 600 DPI, ClearMark is perfect for printing high-density 2D barcodes such as the Datamatrix code, making this a perfect printer for many medical UDI applications or for pharma DSCSA serialization projects.
