Walmart has been working to ensure that packaging and barcoding helps the store personnel with quickly and accurately handling inventory in various departments.
Some of the labeling mandates that have been introduced have been a little confusing, but the team that handles products sold in Walmart’s delis has put together a helpful guide for the labeling they are looking suppliers to provide.
The guide shows the required format for the labels to be fixed to the shipping cases used for deli products:
The suggested label is 4 x 10 inches in size, designed to be wrapped around the corner of the case so that the data is visible from two sides. Unlike most case labels, there are two different barcodes included – the case GTIN (encoded in ITF-14 format) and the product UPC code. The barcodes are repeated on each side of the label so that there are four barcodes in total.
Note that in some cases, the labels need to be color-coded. For frozen production items, the labels need to have a yellow (PMS 102) area and refrigerated production items must have a green (PMS 381) area.
