In order to protect workers from the effects of hazardous products, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has adopted the international Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) standard for the labeling of chemical products.
The OSHA website contains a lot of good information on this standard and what is needed to ensure compliance.
