Our partners at Intermec have been the pioneers in the Smart Printing concept for years. If you use the Intermec Fingerprint language, you’ve been able to write applications that run on the printer, eliminating the need for a separate computer.
The only problem has been that the Fingerprint programming is rather clunky (BASIC programming) and a lot of developers have been looking for something that would allow them to use modern development tools.
Something new has been expected for some time and it has finally arrived!
The latest firmware for the PM43 and PC series printers comes with C# capability. Developers used to working in Microsoft’s .NET environment are going to be very happy because they are going to be able to develop applications in the environment they use all the time, rather than having to re-learn BASIC.
With its nice colour touchscreen interface, the PM43 is the perfect printer to use for Smart Printing – as you can see in the photo, the PM43 display allows for a very nice interface for the operators to interact with.
It is at times like this that I wish I taken the trouble to learn a little programming – I’d like to play with this and see just what it can do. I guess I’ll just have to leave that part for the experts!
So, thanks to Intermec for taking the Smart Printing concept to the next level. It is always good to see some innovation in the label printer world.
