There are many advantages to switching to thermal printing of prescription forms, but securing the rolls of prescription labels is very important – indeed this is covered by a Federal Mandate.
Our good friends at Datamax-O’Neil have introduced a new version of their E-Class MkIII which is a great solution to ensure safe and secure printing as well as mandate compliance.
This latest version of the E-Class is a huge step forward on the older models (I wrote about here, when it was first released) and the secure model adds even more goodness.
There are a number of models in the E-Class MkIII lineup and the secure prescription printer is based on the top of the line Pro+. This model has all the connectivity that might be needed, serial, USB, Parallel, Ethernet all standard and wireless available as well. It also can use large 7 inch diameter rolls of labels – unique in this desktop printer sector.
In order to meet the requirements for secure printing, some additional features are built-in:
- Locking lid to control access to the label supply
- Slot for Kensington lock to prevent printer from being moved or stolen
- Built-in cutter so that only one printed prescription label at a time can be accessed
- Fanfold label slot closed off to prevent access to the inside of the printer
- Firmware change to disable the media feed control
The printer language used by the E-Class MkIII makes it easy to interface with Hospital Information Systems. The default DPL language has been well proven over many 100’s of Meditech installs and the printer also comes with Datamax’s PL-Z language which allows for Zebra emulation for Cerner applications.
We are excited about this new solution which provides simple, safe and secure printing at a very competitive price level.
