So here is Thor – no not the big Nordic guy with the oversize hammer – a new addition to LXE’s collection of vehicle mount computers.
LXE has been the leader in vehicle mounted computing for as long as I can remember, and (just like the big hammer guy) this new one looks to be really tough and able to solve a lot of problems.
For me, one of the biggest problems with vehicle mounted computers is that it was always difficult to move them from one vehicle to another. LXE has solved this problem with Smart Dock. This allows a docking station to be installed on the vehicles and it becomes simple to move the computers around as needed.
In addition, the front panel of the computer is easily removed and replaced should the touchscreen, keypad or defroster fail – reducing downtime dramatically. The defroster is an option that is recommended when Thor is to be used in cold environments.
The new computer comes with all the features one would expect, including a 1.6GHz Atom processor – it is nice to see proper computing speeds getting to these kinds of device. Plenty of memory is included too – needed if choosing the Windows Embedded OS option. Thor is also available with Windows CE.
BlueTooth and included and GSM or CDMA is optional so plenty of ways to connect wirelessly.
It is easy to connect barcode scanners or printers via Bluetooth and as an alternative, USB and serial ports are there too.
Thor looks to be a great addition to LXE’s line up of Vehicle Mount devices. The docking station feature is something that really increases flexibility and makes this model stand out.
