Sandro started as a consultant for Greydon back in 2012 when he was still living in Italy. He became Greydon’s digital division engineering manager in 2015 when Greydon was acquired by ProMach. Sandro was attracted to the challenging idea of moving to another country and restarting from scratch. Sandro said, “Coming from 6 years of traveling across the pond every two weeks, I didn’t think twice and accepted.” His only regrets are he lost his Hertz president circle status and his Hilton points are now lagging.
When we asked Sandro about his daily routine we quickly learned he has a full day designing and developing printers, as well as proving support.
His day starts with support emails from Asia where their day has just finished or Europe where they are waiting for us to wake up. Yes, Greydon provides support all around the world.
Then depending on ongoing projects, Sandro will either supervise the machine design and building process or directly test the printers before releasing them for shipping. Sometimes if they have a commissioning or support call going on in Europe he makes sure they have everything needed before they sign off for the night as well.
The afternoon is usually dedicated to coding new functionalities for the next generation printer, along with technical documentation authoring and organizing support for the US customers.
Towards the end of the day when the other side of the world is waking up, he keeps a regular check on emails until around midnight when he declares himself “out of service”.
Fun fact about Sandro. He recently realized digging into his family roots that printing was probably in his DNA. He has learned that his grandfather owned a print shop where he printed a local newspaper (circa 1940), and then his father was a GM for a Dutch printing plotters manufacturer (Oce’), which later was merged into Epson. He wished he had known that before spending a lot of money on aviation training.
When not working Sandro enjoys spending time with family, friends, and his numerous pets. An interesting fact about Sandro’s pets; when he moved to the US from Italy in 2018 he knew he had a long road of paperwork ahead, but he never would have imagined that each one of his pets would require a valid passport to enter the United States. At the time he had 3 dogs and three cats. He managed to convince his wife to give the turtle up for adoption. He said the most difficult part was getting each animal to pose still for their passport picture. Wow, can you imagine?
