There seems to be an unwritten rule in the label software business that is not cool to let your competitor have a higher version number than you do.
Since Seagull is on Version 9 with its Bartender software, it is nice to report that Teklynx has now leveled the playing field and introduced CodeSoft 9.
As you probably know, the Teklynx organization was formed by joining three separate companies together so the folks there have the unenviable task of having to support three software systems, all different in many ways but also with a lot of overlap.
CodeSoft has always been promoted as the most sophisticated and powerful of the Teklynx and I would agree. The only problem I’ve had with CodeSoft is that it has always been too complicated to try and do pretty simple jobs. As a result, CodeSoft has never really been in my mind when looking to implement a labeling system.
What’s exciting with Version 9 is that Teklynx seems to have understood that the program was too complicated and has focused on making it easier to use.
I’ve not had the chance to use it so far (although I will be downloading the demo version later today) but if handing variables and connecting to databases is now as simple as Teklynx claims, things might be different going forward.
I’m thinking it might be fun to organize a little software shootout between CodeSoft and Bartender to see which really is easier to use!

Do you use CodeSoft in your operation? I’d love to know your thoughts on the software in general and Version 9 in particular. We’ll be happy to set you up with an upgrade of course!
