The UID Forum hosted on September 8-10th in Orlando, Florida proved to be a valuable resource for DoD employees, suppliers and those who have customers who supply to the DoD and find themselves having to comply with MIL-STD-130 and Unique Identification (UID) marking.
We learned that even with the deadlines moving in, there are many who are already preparing and marking items. And then there are many folks who have either not begun to implement a UID plan or have begun and are struggling with compliance. Areas of difficulty may include printing the labels, knowing what data to include, how to create the Data Matrix mark, determining what kinds of labels to use, or what to do with all the associated data.

December 31, 2010 is the deadline for complete IUID marking of items and all applicable embedded assets within existing items. This deadline can prove challenging to meet if you don’t already have a plan for UID implementation.
