Nate Fernald, Sr. Sales Executive, spent this past weekend doing some fundraising for a special cause. MooreMart, a non-profit organization based in Nashua, NH, sends packages containing supplies and personal hygiene items to New Hampshire troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. At the recent Derryfest 2009, Nate was there raising money for the troops.
MooreMart was started five years ago by Paul Moore and Carol Moore Biggio when their brother, Brian, a sergeant first class in the Army, was sent to Iraq. The Moores sent so many packages to their brother and his unit that they joked about it being like WalMart, hence the name MooreMart.
Nate is part of a group charged with fundraising activities. Nate solicits involvement by community members and area businesses to raise money to ship packages to the troops. Nate, a veteran himself, knows how meaningful it is to receive a package from home. But the group also extends their efforts to the children in Iraq and Afghanistan as well. Past efforts included sending backpacks and school supplies to children.
Currently, MooreMart is running a soccer ball drive, where deflated soccer balls, inflation needles and pumps are collected. For a $10 donation, you can write a personal message on a soccer ball that will be shipped to the troops. To date, MooreMart has sent over 20,000 packages to our men and women serving in the armed forces overseas.
