A lot of packaging and labeling equipment has to operate reliably in conditions that are not always ideal – often in quite harsh environments.
Maybe the area is cold and damp, or the packaging line is subject to being washed down every day as part of the sanitation program.
In other cases, the environment might be dusty – dust is often introduced into equipment controls via cooling fans and can cause problems to electronic components.
A lot of labeling equipment is just not capable of being used in these areas, and others can be outfitted to a level of environmental protection (usually IP65) as an option.
When our engineering team developed the new EPI MFlex lineup of pressure-sensitive labeling equipment, we wanted it to be able to operate in as many scenarios as possible – right out of the box.
With this in mind, every EPI MFlex is engineered to comply with the IP65 standard without needing our customers to pay extra – it’s built into every machine.
How do we do it?
For a start, we have years of experience installing our products into protein processing plants, spice and coffee plants, and other industries where the conditions are not always perfect.
We know that the secret to success is to start with a solid non-corrosive stainless steel frame and to use non-corrosive components throughout the system.
The systems version of our M2 labeling head (one of the key modules that make up an MFlex machine) was designed to be IP65 compliant – the correct rated sensors and connectors and no access for dust or water into the module’s body.
All the machine controls are mounted in an IP65-rated enclosure – no fans are needed, so there is no way dust can enter the system. This also applies to the HMI, motors, sensors, and connectors.
The result is a high-quality, well-engineered labeling solution that is simple for your operators and maintenance team and sophisticated enough to handle a huge range of applications – even in challenging environments.
What if I don’t need IP65?
If your packaging line isn’t subject to dampness or dust, you still win with MFlex.
Even in a clean environment, dust is an enemy of electronics and is drawn into the system via fans – have you looked inside an office PC lately?
Keeping the electronics clean and the high-quality construction needed for IP65 compliance ensures the equipment will have a long and productive life in any environment.
