It’s always exciting when Pantone announces its Color of the Year (well, maybe not for those boring yellow and grey colors from last year), and 2022 is no exception.
This year’s – well next year’s I suppose – special color is rather bluey-purply and is called Very Peri, Pantone 17-3938. To be honest, it looks remarkably like the Color of the Year from a few years back, Ultra Violet was the name I believe.
This is what Pantone says about this color:
“With trends in gaming, the expanding popularity of the metaverse and rising artistic community in the digital space PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri illustrates the fusion of modern life and how color trends in the digital world are being manifested in the physical world and vice versa.”
“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer,” added Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our PANTONE Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.
Do you understand that? No, I don’t either, but I do think it’s quite a cool color that’s chosen this year.
Also, it seems that Pantone didn’t just choose any old color that was kicking around – nope, 17-3938 was apparently especially for the Color of the Year Program. Very cool.
What do you think? Will Very Peri help you express ideas and emotions or to engage and connect?
For me, I think probably not -but I do rather like it.
