The International Boston Seafood Show (IBSS) just ended in and I have to say it was a great show. Including the Boston Food Show that was running in the same hall, we were told there were nearly two thousand exhibitors in total – impressive.
Exhibiting companies included seafood businesses from all over the world as well as suppliers to the industry, like our company Winco Identification. Several countries (China, Japan, Scotland, etc.) had national pavilions, showcasing a number of the seafood products they are known for as well as new ones.
Working with our partner, Zebra Technologies, we were showing how to design and print compliant GS1 traceability labels for seafood products as well as a traceability software program from our friends at BellHawk Systems.
During the three days of the show, we had a lot of great conversations about labeling and tracking seafood with old friends and new ones from many parts of the world. Some of the industry folk we talked with already have quite sophisticated tracking and traceability in place in their operations. Others are just getting started and looking for some help and ideas.
Some of the concerns we discovered involved finding labels that perform well in cold and wet conditions (we can help with that) and finding ways to be able track fish from the moment they are brought into the fishing boat – we enjoyed discussing a number of possible ways to achieve this with many industry representatives.
Along with the business discussions and networking, the IBSS is also a fun event. If you like to eat seafood, the IBSS is as good as it gets because a lot of the exhibitors serve up examples of their products. Not a seafood fan? No problem, just stroll the other end of the hall and check out the offerings from many local food companies – some of the best craft breweries too!
Missed the show, but need help with your labeling or tracking for your seafood products? No problem. You can just call me at 603-598-1553 and we’ll be happy to help. You can also use the contact page on the site.
The Seafood Show returns to Boston in 2014 with a new name – it will be the Seafood Expo North America in future. Dates for 2014 are March 16 – 18. Interested in attending? Visit the show website for more info.
Thanks you so much if you were one of the visitors to the Winco ID booth!
