When you look at the suggested Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) case label it looks very simple. Heck, it only consists of a GS1 128 barcode and some text – anyone should be able to print it.
The problem, as Linda pointed out in her article the other day is that pesky VoiceCode that is printed in the lower right of the label. This is a 4 digit number that is calculated from the GTIN and the Lot Number embedded in the barcode.
While the PTI has a calculator on their website for calculating these codes, this doesn’t help much when there are a lot of labels to be produced.
To help with this, we have developed a label template for BarTender that calculates the VoiceCode automatically.
The label is populated from a simple spreadsheet and can be printed to any of the huge range of printers supported by BarTender.
As we do with our MIL-STD-129 label templates, we can provide a copy of our label template to anyone who is a Winco client free of charge. You’ll need the current version of BarTender to use it (of course, we’d be very happy to help you upgrade if you need to!) and the template – along with the spreadsheet – is supplied as-is without support. You are welcome to modify the label to suit your specific needs; add fields, change size, anything you want.
Do you need to comply with PTI? We’d be happy to help – just let me know. You can call me at 603-598-1553 x237.
