If you are not reading RFID-Monthly, from the excellent Reik Read of Robert W. Baird & Co., you should be. Even if you don’t have an interest in RFID, you will find a lot of good information.
In an article that was published today, Reik points out that some companies are beginning to find that the real cost of outsourcing manufacturing to Asia are rising and that there are some good reasons why companies should (and indeed are) look at bringing more manufacturing back to the US.
Reik’s argument is that local manufacturing supported by sensible investments in technology can be more cost effective and certainly more flexible that offshore manufacturing. Companies bringing work back to the US can only strengthen the economy, provide good jobs for skilled people and improve the country’s competitive position.
Needless to say, I agree with Reik 100%.
