Nate Fernald, Sr. Sales Executive, was sworn in as Commander of the American Legion, Lester W. Chase Post #9 Derry, Department of New Hampshire on February 16, 2008. During a ceremony that was filled with tradition, Nate was sworn into his new post by the American Legion National Commander, Martin F. Conatser, Department of Illinois.
Nate is a Vietnam-era Veteran of the Unite States Army, having served in Central America. He has been an active member of the American Legion since 1990, and among his service has worked as Past Post Commander, District 4 Commander, and Department Level Vice Commander.
Much of Nate’s time and efforts serving his community focused on children and youth programs. While serving as State Chairman of the Children and Youth Committee in 1997, Nate developed a program that raised over $17,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network. The money raised helped local children with medical assistance at the Boston Children’s Hospital (CMN Affiliate). This program continues today and has raised more than $120,000 since 1997.
Nate also co-authored a resolution that passed at the American Legion National Convention in 1998 making the month of March “Community Service Month.” Additionally, Nate is the cofounder of the New Hampshire Junior Oratorical Program, the only one of its kind in the nation.
Making it a family affair, Nate’s wife, Kathy, has been active as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, previously serving as State President, and currently serving as President, Unit #9.
Nate joined Winco ID in 1991, and continues to enjoy building relationships with his customers – many former military veterans like himself. Nate has been instrumental in helping to develop several sales programs.
The ceremony was held at the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars facility, #1617 18 Railroad Avenue Derry, NH 03038.
